Homegrown Start-Up Pledges Support for Total Defence 2010
Hungrygowhere.com fronts the economic pillar by saying “I Will”

Dennis Goh, Tan Yung Yih and Wong Hoong An are close friends who set up the popular food website HungryGoWhere.com. This website provides a review of eating places in Singapore and allows the public to give feedback after they have visited a restaurant. Their passion and hunger for success saw them through the obstacles they faced such as the economic recession and lack of support. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing food listings portals in Singapore. The team has since expanded and what started out as a simple local website in 2006 has now developed into a regional business that spans Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Melbourne.

“I will relish all opportunities to feed Singapore’s hunger for excellence and growth.”

Fronting this year’s Total Defence (TD) campaign for Economic Defence, they embody a success model born out of Singapore’s drive for excellence and growth. “We hope to inspire everyone that it is possible for Singaporeans to be successful global entrepreneurs, especially in the dot.com space, and make a positive difference to the global (food) community,” says Mr Goh. By relying on their strengths and sheer perseverance, the founders of HungryGoWhere.com strive to constantly stay relevant and competitive through rapid change and development in the economy.

In the spirit of reinvention, the people behind the website have not rested on their laurels but have been working tirelessly to constantly introduce fresh website features. The team has recently expanded their reach to a wider international audience and contributed to a stronger brand name for Singapore by entering into a partnership with Microsoft MSN, an influential global online entertainment and sports channel.

To commemorate TD in 2010 this year, the team of HungryGoWhere.com and four other groups of Singaporeans have stepped forward to share with the nation what they are doing to protect what they hold dear. They hope to encourage fellow Singaporeans to also think about their commitment to themselves and to their country. They believe that TD is a personal commitment and regardless of one’s age and achievements, everyone can do something to keep Singapore strong and secure.
